To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus COVID-19, on July 26, Tajikistan received 1.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine produced by the American company Moderna Inc. as humanitarian assistance through the COVACS mechanism and the COVID-19 equitable dose distribution program. This is reported by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Matlubakhon Sattoriyon, Deputy Ministers of Health and Social Protection of the Population Gafur Mukhsinzoda, Abdukholik Amirzoda, UNICEF Representative in Tajikistan Osama Makak attended the vaccine reception ceremony at Dushanbe International Airport.
As already noted, the United States of America and the Republic of Tajikistan have been recognized as permanent partners in the international arena since the beginning of the acquisition of State independence.
Economic and social ties between the two countries have been expanding in recent years, large economic and social projects are being implemented in various sectors of the economy.
Modern science has also confirmed that vaccination can prevent the epidemiological process of new coronavirus infections, this is the only reliable and simple way to prevent the spread of infection among the population.
Since the beginning of this year, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other existing platforms, has approached the Government of the United States of America through the US Embassy in Dushanbe to help reach the population with vaccinations.
The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare plans to vaccinate 62.4 percent, or 5.8 million people over the age of 18 in the country, based on available resources.
It is expected that the accepted vaccine will be delivered to the regions, cities and districts of the country according to the plan, after which vaccination will begin.
750 thousand citizens of the country will be vaccinated with the American vaccine.
