Department of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Medicine
HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Pathology Anatomy was established based on Order No. 04-29 of the Rector of the Non-Governmental Educational Institution “Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan” dated January 27, 2022, as part of the Department of Human Anatomy with Latin Terminology. As of July 25, 2024, changes were made to the name of the Department, and from the same date it began operating independently as the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Medicine.From that time to the present, the duties of Head of the Department have been performed by Candidate of Medical Sciences S. R. Mirzoeva.
Since its establishment, the Department has operated in accordance with its work plan, departmental regulations, orders and decisions of the Ministries of Education and Science and of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, other regulatory legal acts, as well as decisions of the Academic Council and Administration of the Tajik Medical and Social Institute. The Department serves as a primary base for training highly qualified medical professionals.
MAIN AREAS OF ACTIVITY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGICAL ANATOMY AND FORENSIC MEDICINE
Improving students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills in pathological anatomy, and fostering their personal development and worldview.
Enhancing teaching effectiveness through the application of modern educational methods and technologies.
Organizing and conducting scientific-methodological events, scientific-practical seminars, open and demonstration classes, conferences, subject weeks, and related activities.
Enriching the educational process with results of recent scientific research.
Preparing methodological guidelines and educational literature.
Strengthening educational, moral, ideological, political, and awareness-raising work among students.
Continuing professional development and retraining of teaching staff.
Conducting scientific research cooperation with other state educational institutions and research centers.
ACADEMIC STAFF OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY ANATOMY AND FORENSIC MEDICINE
The Department employs two Candidates of Medical Sciences (S. R. Mirzoeva, A. B. Rajabova), one PhD holder, three doctoral applicants (Mavlonov M., Imomov B., Narzulloeva N. J.), and eight assistants. In the 2025 academic year, the total number of staff is 14, including five full-time lecturers (S. R. Mirzoeva, A. B. Rajabova, D. B. Tokhirov, H. Sharifzoda, Farangis A.) and nine part-time lecturers (Mavlonov M., Imomov B., Narzulloeva N. J., S. N. Nazirov, F. R. Abdulloeva, M. Jalilov, S. R. Khojaev, A. Aliev, N. Roziqov).
Lectures and practical classes are conducted in three languages: Tajik, Russian, and English. Lectures are delivered by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor H. Yu. Sharipov, as well as assistants including Mavlonov M., including for international students. Lectures are accompanied by presentations and clinical examples from pathology practice.
Students participate in autopsies at the forensic morgue and in the preparation of histological sections in the histology laboratory. During practical classes, students study macro- and micro-specimens, make drawings in their albums, and solve situational tasks. Each classroom is equipped with microscopes.
The Department staff have authored and published the textbook “Special Pathological Anatomy” in Tajik. Preparation of textbooks in Russian and English is ongoing. Currently, the Department is sufficiently supplied with educational materials in Tajik, Russian, and English.
EDUCATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DISCIPLINE
Teaching pathological anatomy aims to develop in future medical professionals fundamental knowledge of pathology as a science directly related to clinical practice. Pathological anatomy occupies an important place in the healthcare system and in training highly qualified medical personnel. It studies the morphological basis of diseases, their etiology, pathogenesis, macro- and microscopic changes, complications, and outcomes.
Students of the 3rd year from the medical, dental, pharmaceutical faculties and the Faculty of Medical Psychology study pathological anatomy. Instruction is provided in the state language, Russian, and English.
Educational and Methodological Activities
To support the educational process, the Department continuously develops teaching and methodological materials for students of all faculties. In recent years, the Department staff have published new lecture courses with updated standard and working curricula forming the basis of professional medical education.
These programs are prepared in Tajik, Russian, and English in accordance with the State Standard of Higher Professional Education. They define course objectives, learning outcomes, thematic lecture plans, practical classes, and students’ independent work within the credit-based education system.
Over the years, the Department has prepared eight syllabi and lecture materials in Pathological Anatomy for students of medical, pharmaceutical, dental faculties, and the Faculty of Medical Psychology in three languages. A total of 800 test questions for interim assessment and 200 examination questions have been developed.
Research Activities
The Department conducts research activities according to an approved research plan aimed at developing scientific potential, improving staff qualifications, and engaging talented youth in scientific work.
In order to enhance the quality of training specialists in general medicine, medical psychology, dentistry, social work, and pharmacology, and in accordance with Resolution No. 148 of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 31, 2022, the subject club “Young Doctors” was established by order of the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation on October 10, 2022. The club became fully operational in September 2024 and works according to an approved annual plan.
During two years of departmental activity, five methodological manuals, four scientific articles, and twenty-four conference abstracts have been published in national and international conferences and VAK-indexed journals.
Educational and Moral Development Activities
Educational work is a core component of the Department’s mission and is implemented through educational hours, practical classes, and lectures based on an approved plan.
Activities aim to enhance students’ knowledge, culture, worldview, and moral development. Faculty members regularly conduct discussions with students on discipline, ethics, and institutional regulations.
Topics include national legislation, prevention of extremism and terrorism, family education, communication psychology, aesthetic awareness, and civic responsibility.

Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan
The Department is located in the new building of the Institute in Dushanbe, 2 K. Setkina Street. It includes 4 classrooms and 2 lecture halls equipped with didactic materials, multimedia tools, and audiovisual equipment.
Modern teaching methods are widely used, including multimedia presentations, video materials, and interactive boards. Open classes and subject clubs are held regularly with active student participation.
