HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGES

The Department of Languages was established by Order No. 04-27 of the Rector of the Non-Governmental Educational Institution “Tajik Medical and Social Institute,” dated September 2, 2020, in order to improve the quality of education, enhance academic activities, and train highly qualified specialists who meet the demands of the modern era. Its establishment was based on Protocol No. 1 of the Academic Council meeting held on August 31, 2020, and was carried out in accordance with the Charter of the Non-Governmental Educational Institution “Tajik Medical and Social Institute.” Since its establishment, the department has operated in accordance with its work plan and regulations, as well as the decisions and orders of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, relevant regulatory and legal documents, and the decisions of the Academic Council and the Administration of the Tajik Medical and Social Institute. Since August 2026, Uguloy Rafikovna Qositova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, has been appointed Head of the Department of Languages.

The faculty members of the Department of Languages continuously strive to teach the subjects offered by the department, namely Tajik, Russian, English, and German languages, as well as Bioethics, using modern teaching methods. The department employs one Doctor of Philological Sciences who holds the title of Professor, four Candidates of Sciences, and one Associate Professor.

As the Institute’s material and technical facilities have improved, the department’s faculty members have increasingly incorporated modern technologies into their teaching, including computers, projectors, and interactive whiteboards. In addition to the main textbooks, supplementary educational materials are widely used, including audio and video resources, self-assessment question sets, handouts, and presentations.

MAIN AREAS OF ACTIVITY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGES

The main areas of activity of the Department of Languages include the study of Tajik and foreign languages, namely English, Russian, and German; the teaching of Bioethics; the implementation of modern teaching methods, such as CBL (Case-Based Learning) and TBL (Team-Based Learning); the development of curricula, syllabi, and teaching materials; research in linguistics, translation studies, and language teaching methodology; the publication of scientific articles in academic journals and periodicals and participation in conferences; professional development and further training of teaching staff; and the development of scientific and research cooperation with other public educational institutions and research institutes.

STAFF OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGES

The Department of Languages includes Professor U. R. Yuldoshev, Doctor of Philological Sciences; Candidates of Philological Sciences U. R. Qositova, Z. S. Samadova, G. I. Rizoeva, and R. I. Safarov; as well as associate professors.

During the 2026–2027 academic year, the total staff of the department consists of 12 employees. Of these, 10 are permanent teaching staff members: U. Yuldoshev, Z. Samadova, A. Nодиров, L. Shodieva, T. Qurbonova, M. Nosirova, Sh. Khojaeva, M. Ganieva, F. Ahmadzoda, F. Safarzoda, and Sh. Usmonova. One lecturer, G. Rizoeva, works as an internal part-time employee, while one lecturer, R. Safarov, works as an external part-time employee.

TEACHING ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Languages is responsible for developing students’ language knowledge and communication skills throughout the Institute. Its teaching activities are primarily divided into four areas: classroom instruction, teaching methodologies, assessment and evaluation, and the development of practical language skills.

Curriculum Development and Lesson Planning

The department prepares syllabi and curricula for Tajik and foreign language courses, introduces innovative teaching methods, including CBL, TBL, role-play, and project-based learning, and develops educational resources such as textbooks, presentations, videos, and audio materials.

Theoretical and Practical Classes

Theoretical classes cover grammar, vocabulary, phonetics, and stylistics. Practical classes focus on developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through interactive teaching methods. Students are organized into groups to promote teamwork, collaboration, and discussion of various topics.

Assessment and Evaluation

Students’ knowledge is assessed through internal examinations, tests, presentations, and participation in discussions. Audio and video materials, as well as educational simulations, are used to improve listening comprehension and speaking skills.

Practical Activities

Practical activities include translation exercises, the analysis of authentic texts using the Case-Based Learning method, and participation in subject-specific extracurricular clubs organized by the department to reinforce students’ knowledge and practical skills.

First-year students from all faculties of the Institute study Russian, English, Tajik, and Bioethics. In addition, German is taught to students of the Faculty of Medical and Social Sciences. It should be noted that instruction at the Institute is provided in Tajik, Russian, and English.

EDUCATIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES

To ensure an effective educational process, the department’s faculty members continuously work on developing teaching and methodological manuals for students of all faculties. In recent years, they have developed and published new standard and working curricula that serve as the foundation for professional medical education. These curricula have been prepared in Tajik, Russian, English, and German in accordance with the state standards for higher professional education.

The curricula include thematic plans for lectures, practical classes, and students’ independent work, organized in accordance with the requirements of the credit-based education system.

Throughout the department’s years of operation, nine educational programs (syllabi) have been prepared in Tajik, Russian, and English for students of the Medical, Pharmaceutical, and Dental Faculties, the Faculty of Medical Psychology, and the Faculty of Medical and Social Sciences.

For each subject, the department has prepared 300 test questions for intermediate assessments and 200 examination questions for students of the aforementioned faculties.

During the 2026–2027 academic year, the department’s staff also prepared a teaching and methodological package and a working curriculum for the subject “State Language” for international student groups.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

The department conducts its activities in accordance with its research plan, which aims to develop scientific potential, strengthen research activities, improve the professional qualifications of academic staff, and attract talented young people to scientific research and innovation.

During the reporting period, the department’s faculty members published two monographs, six teaching manuals, 15 scientific articles, and 40 conference abstracts presented at international and national conferences and published in academic journals included in the lists of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan.

It is also important to note that, in order to implement Government Resolution No. 148 of the Republic of Tajikistan, dated March 31, 2022, entitled “On the Action Plan for the Implementation of the State Programme for Training Personnel for the Social Protection System up to 2030,” and to create favorable conditions for the development of students’ intellectual, creative, and research abilities, a subject-specific club entitled “Guardians and Lovers of Languages” was established at the Department of Languages of the Tajik Medical and Social Institute.

The club began its activities pursuant to Order No. 04-479a, dated September 5, 2022, issued by A. Akhmedov, Deputy Rector for Science and Innovation.

The subject-specific club “Guardians and Lovers of Languages” was established to improve the quality of education and training of medical professionals, strengthen students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills, deepen their understanding of specialized disciplines, and encourage their interest in creative activities and scientific research.

The club’s activities are aimed at developing students’ scientific outlook, analytical thinking, and ability to draw conclusions, improving their language proficiency, and enhancing their professional knowledge. It serves students of the Faculty of General Medicine, the Faculty of Medical Psychology, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Medical and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Every year, students affiliated with the department participate in the national competition “Furughi Subhi Donoi Kitob Ast...” (“The Radiance of Enlightenment Lies in Books”) and win prizes at various stages of the competition. In particular, ... These achievements clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the “Guardians and Lovers of Languages” club, the dedication of the teaching staff, and the students’ commitment to mastering Tajik, Russian, and English.

Overall, the subject-specific club “Guardians and Lovers of Languages” plays an important role in improving students’ language proficiency, developing their intellectual and creative potential, and training knowledgeable and professionally competent specialists.

The continued successful operation of the club will create favorable conditions for involving more students in scientific research, encouraging active participation in subject Olympiads, and ensuring that the Tajik Medical and Social Institute is represented with distinction at scientific and educational events.

EDUCATIONAL AND CHARACTER-BUILDING ACTIVITIES

Educational and character-building activities constitute one of the most important and priority areas of the Department of Languages. They aim to develop well-rounded individuals, improve students’ educational and cultural levels, foster patriotism and national identity, and promote respect for national and universal human values.

The department’s educational activities are carried out in accordance with its established work plan and the plan approved by N. A. Aminova, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Deputy Rector for Educational Affairs.

Within this framework, the department’s faculty members regularly organize educational sessions, practical classes, political information sessions, discussions, meetings, and awareness-raising events. These activities are intended to enhance students’ knowledge, communication culture, and general outlook.

The department’s educational initiatives primarily focus on broadening students’ worldviews, improving their legal, moral, and political awareness, fostering a sense of responsibility, promoting respect for national values, and encouraging compliance with ethical and behavioral standards.

Faculty members regularly hold discussions with students on academic discipline, the internal regulations of the department and the Institute, respectful relationships with teachers and fellow students, and the fulfillment of student responsibilities.

In accordance with the department’s educational activity plan, important social, legal, ethical, and cultural issues are discussed. Particular attention is paid to studying and explaining the provisions of the legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan, including the laws of the Republic of Tajikistan “On the Responsibility of Parents for the Education and Upbringing of Children” and “On the Regulation of Traditions, Celebrations, and Ceremonies in the Republic of Tajikistan.”

The purpose of these activities is to improve students’ legal literacy, develop a sense of responsibility toward society and the family, and foster a conscious attitude toward compliance with the country’s legislation.

One of the key areas of the department’s educational work is the prevention of negative social phenomena among young people. In this regard, faculty members conduct awareness-raising activities, discussions, and educational meetings with students on combating terrorism, extremism, and radicalism; preventing young people from becoming involved in extremist groups; increasing political awareness; and strengthening patriotic values.

Special attention is given to promoting national unity, preserving peace and stability, respecting constitutional values, and encouraging young people to contribute to the sustainable development of society.

Furthermore, educational sessions are held in all student groups on family relationships, morality and ethics, dress culture, communication skills, the psychology of interpersonal relationships, and aesthetic education.

These activities contribute to developing a healthy attitude toward family life, respect for family values, appropriate communication skills, aesthetic appreciation, and students’ moral development.Another important area of the department’s educational activities is encouraging students to study the history and culture of the Tajik people and become familiar with historical and cultural sites, sacred places, and national monuments.

Through these activities, students develop a stronger sense of national pride, self-awareness, patriotism, and respect for the historical and cultural heritage of their ancestors. Particular attention is also given to preserving national heritage, respecting the state language, honoring state symbols, and maintaining positive folk traditions.Overall, the educational activities of the Department of Languages are organized in accordance with contemporary requirements and the objectives of educating a knowledgeable, cultured, patriotic, and responsible generation.

By making effective use of available resources and organizing various educational and character-building events, the department’s faculty members continuously strive to develop students’ personalities, raise their educational and cultural standards, and prepare qualified specialists with strong moral values.

These activities play an important role in educating young people who possess a strong sense of identity, a broad outlook, and respect for national values. They also help create a positive educational and developmental environment within the Institute.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGES OF THE TAJIK MEDICAL AND SOCIAL INSTITUTE

The Department of Languages was established as an independent structural unit pursuant to Order No. 04-27 of the Rector of the Non-Governmental Educational Institution “Tajik Medical and Social Institute,” dated September 2, 2020. The Department of Languages is located on the fifth floor of the Tajik Medical and Social Institute. The department has five classrooms on the fifth floor, one classroom on the fourth floor, and one classroom in the basement of the main building. To make classes more engaging and encourage students to participate actively in the learning process, the department’s faculty members use effective modern teaching methods. Multimedia slides, video materials, and interactive whiteboards are used during practical classes to help students understand and retain the learning material more effectively.

The department makes extensive use of audiovisual materials during classes and other educational activities. Open lessons, demonstration classes, and subject-specific club meetings involving active student participation are regularly organized at the department.
