Department of orthopedic dentistry

According to the decision of the Academic Council in January 2022 (Resolution No. 04-28 dated 27 January 2022), the Department of "Orthopedic Dentistry" was established in the NEI "Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan", which is one of the constituent structures of the "Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan".

The Department of "Orthopedic Dentistry" is located on the 2nd floor of the "Scientific-Clinical Educational Centre" at the "Medical-Social Institute of Tajikistan".

The Department of "Orthopedic Dentistry" is considered to be the main educational and scientific structure of the Institute and carries out its activity in the following directions: educational and methodical, research, public and educational.

The educational-methodical and research work of the department corresponds to the main activity and curricula of the specialties "Stomatology", "Medicine" preparation, which is carried out by the dean's office of the faculties.

Main functions of the department

- Raising the level of students' knowledge;

- Carry out activities aimed at improving students' knowledge of how to prevent dental disease.

- The introduction of methods for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases on the basis of modern medical technologies.

- Training highly qualified specialists.

- Training of scientific and educational staff;

- Preparation of methodological guidelines, teaching aids, manuals for practical activities of students and teachers;

- implementation of sanitary-hygienic and anti-epidemic measures to provide medical care, safe medical activities, safety of employees and patients, prevention of the spread of hospital infections.

- improvement of organisational forms and methods of work of the department aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of the treatment and diagnostic process.

- educational work at the department is conducted according to the plan approved by the Department of Education, practically all lectures and practical classes are conducted in the form of presentation, i.e. using a computer, projector and electronic board). The department has a phantom room equipped with all modern materials to enhance the students' knowledge.

- The following educational activities were held: 'Preventing young people from joining extremist and terrorist groups', 'The state of foreign language learning', and 'The importance of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan for peace and progress in modern society'.

There are currently 6 teachers working in the department. The head of the department is Ilham Islomiddinovich Odinaev.

Educational Activities.

According to the curriculum, the department organises educational activities for 2nd and 3rd year students of the Faculty of Dentistry in the following subjects: "Orthopaedic Dentistry", "Material Science Dentistry", "Dentistry".

Education is provided on a credit basis in accordance with educational programmes and plans approved by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The course of study takes the following forms:

(a) Classroom training (lectures), practical training (seminars); laboratory work.

b) Extracurricular activities, consultations, and independent work under the guidance of a teacher.
c) Control of students' learning level: This can be achieved by checking their test work performance, conducting interim certification, and administering tests (in written or computerised form) on individual chapters of the subjects studied.
d) current attestation - final test examination in individual subjects;
e) final state attestation: state examinations in specialised subjects.

In order to improve the level and quality of education and practical skills of students, to increase the efficiency of teaching of profile dental disciplines on a preclinical basis, 4 classrooms were equipped.

Currently, there are practical training rooms equipped with all necessary equipment for specialised subjects, including dental instruments and materials.

The department treats patients and provides practical training using 2 universal dental units.

All classrooms are furnished with tables and chairs and decorated with themed banners.

Clinical base of the department

- Scientific-Clinical Educational Centre at the "Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan" (2 classrooms, teachers I.I. Odinaev, N. Izatulloeva).

- State Unitary Enterprise "Dental Clinic" (2 auditoriums, teachers Rasulov Makhmadsharif, Makhmudova Farangis)

- Scientific-clinical laboratory of stomatology and maxillofacial surgery (1 auditorium) Lecturer Makhmadjonov Sulaimon.

- City Hospital No. 9 Amonzoda Ejod.

Taking into account the educational areas, the clinic is more than 1000 square metres, which corresponds to 8 to 12 square metres for each student (this indicator corresponds to the criteria for determining the status of secondary vocational schools in the Republic of Tajikistan and even exceeds it).

Educational activity

The Department of "Orthopaedic Dentistry" uses all available opportunities, including intellectual and creative forces of students and teachers, to implement the requirements of the "National Concept of Education in the Republic of Tajikistan".

In order to implement the National Concept of Education in the Republic of Tajikistan, necessary measures are considered, continuous study of the concept is carried out in classrooms of academic groups, and the implementation of internal routines and rules is monitored. The Department monitors compliance with the "Recommended Guidelines for Pupils and Students of Higher Vocational Education Institutions" and takes the necessary measures to develop national consciousness, civic dignity and patriotism among students.

Educational work is carried out on the following topics: "On the responsibility of parents in the education and upbringing of children" and "On the regulation of traditions, holidays and rituals in Tajikistan". At the same time, teachers and students in study groups carry out propaganda activities to promote and encourage the relentless fight against terrorism, extremism and other undesirable phenomena and to prevent young people from joining extremist groups.

Discussions are held among the students about improving the level of communication between teachers and students, communication with patients during the internship, mandatory compliance with the provisions of the Code of Medical Ethics, and strengthening continuous moral and legal education. The department encourages student participation in events, competitions, and conferences that promote healthy lifestyles at the district, city, national, and international levels.

Every year the Department of "Orthopaedic Dentistry" holds conferences of teachers and students, where the achievements of teachers and students are discussed and evaluated, and also promotes publications in the media, on the website and in the institute's journal.

Treatment and counselling work

Dentists make preventive and diagnostic appointments every day.

- Organising the process of diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases;

- Consultative meetings;

- A timely and comprehensive examination of the patient;

- Introduction of modern methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental and maxillofacial diseases;

- Treatment of dental patients on an outpatient basis using modern methods and preparations;

- Dispensary control of patients with pathology of the maxillodental system and analysis of its effectiveness with assessment of the level of dental health;

- identification of patients with dento-mandibular anomalies, deformities and conditions of their development, dental crown defects and their further referral to the department of the dental polyclinic of the appropriate profile;

- in the presence of medical indications, referral of patients for inpatient treatment to the dental surgery or maxillofacial surgery departments of a multidisciplinary hospital, as well as to special medical organizations;

- Providing advice to doctors in other structural units of the hospital;

- Organization and implementation of preventive examinations and oral hygiene.

- Analyzing the quality and efficiency of work and developing recommendations for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and dispensary monitoring of the department's patients.

- Introduction of new methods for preventing, diagnosing, and treating patients.

- Participation in professional development activities.

Scientific activity

The scientific activity of the teachers occupies a significant role in the department's work. The department works on the basis of the research plan, in the direction of the development of scientific potential, activation and professional development, attracting talented young teachers of the department to doctoral studies in the specialty, Doctor of Dental Sciences (PhD); The educational and research activities will be developed by introducing innovative methods to organize the educational process; Enrichment of the educational process with the results of the latest scientific research.
