HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Orthopedic Dentistry is one of the main structural units of the non-state educational institution (NSEI) “Tajik Medical and Social Institute” and was established pursuant to Order No. 04-28 of the Institute’s Rector dated January 27, 2022. From its very inception, the department has served as an educational and research hub for training specialists in the field of prosthodontics. Since 2024, the department has been headed by Lutfiya Nabijanovna Pochodzhonova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, who oversees the department’s overall operations. The department chair coordinates educational, research, and student development activities, and bears significant responsibility for ensuring the quality of the educational process and advancing research. Under the chair’s leadership, special attention is given to preparing students for research work. Students are actively involved in research and participate in national and international conferences.

LOCATION AND CLINICAL FACILITIES

The department is located on the second floor of the institute’s clinical and research-educational center and is equipped with modern medical and educational equipment. The department’s clinical units are: the Clinical Research and Educational Center of the Tajik Medical and Social Institute; and the Scientific and Clinical Institute of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery. These units enable students to hone their practical and clinical skills in a real-world medical setting.

MAIN AREAS OF ACTIVITY

The department’s activities are carried out in the following areas: educational and methodological work, scientific research, and student development, as well as the promotion of international cooperation. All activities are conducted in accordance with state educational standards and the curriculum for the “Dentistry” specialty.

EDUCATIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES

The department’s educational and methodological activities are characterized by the following results: three educational and methodological guides have been developed and implemented; syllabi for the courses “Materials Science” and “Prosthodontics” have been prepared and approved for all academic years; four lecture courses have been developed (for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th academic years); modern educational technologies are used (multimedia presentations, electronic whiteboards, interactive teaching methods). The phantom lab is equipped with modern equipment that facilitates the development of practical skills. Classes are conducted using innovative methods and modern equipment, which contributes to improving the quality of the educational process.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

The department operates based on a research plan aimed at developing scientific potential, stimulating research activity, and enhancing professional qualifications, as well as attracting talented young people to scientific and innovative activities.

During this period, faculty members have published 2 scientific articles, 15 abstracts, and 2 papers; in addition, 3 teaching aids have been published in the proceedings of national and international conferences. Students also present their papers annually at conferences held at the institute and beyond, under the guidance of the department.

The department hosts a student research club called “Orthopedics—The Art of Restoration.” The total number of participants is 13 (students and young faculty members). The club’s main areas of activity are the development of scientific thinking and participation in conferences.

Every year on February 9, the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry holds a scientific and practical conference dedicated to Dentist Day at the institute’s clinical research center, with the participation of department faculty and students.

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

Student development is one of the department’s key priorities and is aimed at raising students’ educational and cultural levels, fostering patriotism, national identity, and respect for national and universal values.

The department’s educational activities are organized based on a developed work plan and in accordance with the plan approved by the Vice Rector for Educational Work, N. A. Aminova, Candidate of Medical Sciences. In this regard, the department’s faculty members, using various forms and methods of work—including educational sessions, practical classes, discussions, meetings, and educational events—systematically work to improve students’ knowledge, communication skills, and broaden their horizons. Faculty members regularly hold educational discussions with students on academic discipline, the department’s and the institute’s internal regulations, respectful treatment of faculty and peers, and the fulfillment of student responsibilities.

In accordance with the department’s plan for educational activities, important social, legal, ethical, and cultural issues are addressed. The purpose of these activities is to improve students’ legal literacy, foster a sense of responsibility toward society and family, and cultivate a conscious attitude toward compliance with the country’s laws.

ACADEMIC STAFF OF THE DEPARTMENT

The faculty of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry consists of 12 members, including 5 full-time faculty members and 7 part-time faculty members. The department’s faculty comprises highly qualified and experienced specialists whose work is focused on improving the quality of the educational process and training competitive professionals.

CLINICAL ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES

The Department of Prosthetic Dentistry provides the public with high-quality dental care at its clinical facilities. Its activities are focused on accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and increasing patient satisfaction.

Dental services are provided using modern equipment and cutting-edge medical technologies and meet international standards. The department offers a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for dental diseases, including modern prosthetics (fabrication and placement of dental restorations), restoration of dental arch defects, restoration of chewing function, and improvement of smile aesthetic
