THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY AND NEUROLOGY

History of the Department

The Department were established in 2025 in accordance with the Regulations on the Departments of Higher Professional Educational Institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan (Resolution of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 30, 2017 No. 3/13), on approval of the Regulations on the Department of Higher Professional Educational Institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan, also in accordance with the Charter of the NEI “Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan”, the work plan of the Department and by the order of the Rector dated June 09, 2025 No. 04-320.

The Department of Psychiatry and Neurology provides training for specialists at the first stage of higher education in the specialty “Doctor. Psychotherapist”.

The Department of Psychiatry and Neurology, according to the curriculum, offers courses in the following disciplines:

  • psychiatry, medical psychiology;
  • sleep medicine and dreams;
  • psychopathology;
  • clinical psychology;
  • neuropsychology;
  • neurology;
  • perinatal psychology;
  • psychological development disorder in childhood;
  • psychogenetic;
  • supervision;
  • sexual disorders;
  • addicted behavior;
  • psychopharmacology;

Currently, 16 faculty members work at the Department. Acting head Barakatullo Niyozov Hikmatovich. 

Educational activities

The Department conducts practical and theoretical classes for students of the medical, psychological and social faculties. Training is carried out in accordance with the curriculum and is based on the specifics of each faculty and the specifics of future specialists in Russian and Tajik languages, and for foreign students in English. Each classroom is equipped with computers, and during the lesson, teachers use multimedia as a visual aid. During practical classes, assistants use visual aids in the form of posters, psychological illustrations, crosswords and tests.

Educational work

Educational work at the Department is carried out in accordance with the educational work plan.The plan of educational work of the Department was developed on the basis of the requirements of the “National Concept of Education in the Republic of Tajikistan” (Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 3, 2006 No. 94). Educational activities are aimed at increasing the level of knowledge and culture of students.

Discussions are held to improve the level of communication between teachers and students, communication with patients during internship, mandatory compliance with the provisions of the Code of Medical Ethics, and strengthening of continuous moral and legal education among students. The Department carries out educational work in accordance with the requirements of the provisions of the laws of the Republic of Tajikistan:

  • “On the responsibility of parents for the education and upbringing of children” (as amended by the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 15, 2016, No. 1294; dated May 17, 2018, No. 1532);
  • “On the streamlining of traditions, celebrations and rituals in the Republic of Tajikistan” (Akhbori Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, 2007, No. 6, Art. 428; 2008, No. 6, Art. 448; 2010, No. 7, Art. 568; Law of the Republic of Tajikistan dated May 30, 2017, No. 1428; dated August 28, 2017, No. 1461);
  • Instructions on the recommended uniform for students of primary, secondary, special and higher professional institutions, approved by the decision of the Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan dated July 3, 2007, No. 14/2;
  • “On the fight against terrorism” (Akhbori Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, 1999, No. 11, Art. 275; 2005, No. 3, Art. 116; 2007, No. 5, Art. 355; 2008, No. 10, Art. 802; 2012, No. 8, Art. 816; 2013, No. 6, Art. 407; 2014, No. 11, Art. 647, Art. 648; Law of the Republic of Tajikistan dated December 25, 2015 city, No. 1266);
