Clinical Base of the Department
Currently, the Department includes 3 Candidates of Medical Sciences (PhD) and 3 doctoral students from various departments. The Department staff also consists of 11 external part-time faculty members whose work experience at the Department ranges from 5 to 37 years, including: M.M. Rajabzoda (37 years of professional experience), Kh.M. Juraev (36 years), B.T. Ganiev (32 years,) and others.
The Department operates on the basis of the State Institution “Republican Clinical Center of Orthopedics and Traumatology”. It includes one lecture hall equipped with a projector and an interactive board, as well as four classrooms furnished with visual teaching aids (including educational posters, a human skeleton model, desks, chairs, computers, and other equipment).
Medical and Consultative Activities
The Department of “Traumatology and Orthopedics, Military Field Surgery with courses in Urology and Anesthesiology” conducts medical and consultative activities at:
- the State Institution “Republican Clinical Center of Orthopedics and Traumatology”;
- the State Medical Center “Shifobakhsh”;
- regional, city, and district hospitals throughout the Republic of Tajikistan
History of the Department
The Department of “Traumatology and Orthopedics, Military Field Surgery with courses in Urology and Anesthesiology” is a structural subdivision of the International Scientific and Educational Institution NEI “Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan”.
The Department was established in July 2024 on the basis of the State Institution “Republican Clinical Center of Orthopedics and Traumatology” (Order No. 04-352 dated July 1, 2024). It was created under an agreement between the NEI “Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan” and the administration of the above-mentioned institution.
Since its establishment, the Acting Head of the Department has been M.M. Rajabzoda, Candidate of Medical Sciences.
During the first academic year, the Department employed 6 specialists (assistants), including the Acting Head of the Department and other faculty members.
The Department teaches four disciplines:
- “Orthopedics and Traumatology and Military Field Surgery” (in Tajik, Russian, and English);
- “Urology”;
- “Anesthesiology”;
- “Polytrauma” (in Tajik and Russian).
In its first academic year, three disciplines were taught. In 2025, the discipline “Polytrauma” was added to the Department.
In the 2024–2025 academic year, 9 groups of 5th-year students of the Faculty of General Medicine studied at the Department. In the 2025–2026 academic year, 19 groups of 5th-year students and 9 groups of 6th-year students studied at the Department.
Educational and Methodological Work
The Department actively participates in staff organization and allocation, as well as in equipping the educational process with modern teaching aids and equipment. Continuous efforts are made to ensure high-quality teaching and practical training for students.
Instruction in the four disciplines is delivered in Tajik, Russian and English. The Institute also enrolls international students, whose classes are conducted in English.
Faculty members continuously work to improve educational, methodological, scientific, publishing, and educational activities. Modern teaching methods are widely applied to enhance the quality of practical training.
Classrooms are equipped with visual teaching aids that play an essential role in improving the quality of education. Enhancing educational quality is one of the primary objectives of the Institute.
Students of the 5th year of the “General Medicine” program (including international students) study “Orthopedics and Traumatology and Military Field Surgery”, “Urology” and “Anesthesiology.” Sixth-year students study “Polytrauma”. Education is carried out in accordance with the credit-module system.
Educational and Moral Development Work
Educational work is one of the most important aspects of youth development. Continuous efforts are made to cultivate patriotism, humanism, professional ethics and medical deontology among students of the medical and medical psychology faculties.
Before classes begin, faculty members conduct discussions with students on topics such as ethics and professional conduct, speech culture, prevention of extremism and terrorism, anti-corruption measures, appropriate dress code, attendance requirements and other relevant issues.
Research Activities
Over the past two years, Department staff have published 3 scientific articles and 17 abstracts in the journal “Healthcare of Tajikistan”. Faculty members have participated in conferences, forums and symposia both within Tajikistan and abroad, including in Urumqi (People’s Republic of China), Namangan region (Republic of Uzbekistan), Astana (Republic of Kazakhstan) and other locations.
Scientific activity occupies an important place in the Department’s work. In accordance with the Institute’s research plan, the Department actively develops scientific potential, supports professional development and encourages the involvement of talented young faculty members and doctoral candidates.
Research findings are regularly incorporated into the educational process.
Achievements of the Department
During its period of operation, the Department has achieved the following:
- Publication of the book “Tajik–Russian Dictionary of Clinical Signs and Symptoms in Traumatology and Orthopedics”;
- Preparation of the Training Manual “Congenital Hip Dislocation,” both of which have been made available in the Institute’s library.
