HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Hygiene and Ecology was established as an independent department on the basis of the order of the rector of the Non-Governmental Educational Institution "Tajik Medical and Social Institute" dated January 27, 2022 No. 04-38. Until that time, the department functioned as part of the Department of "Medical Biology with the basics of Genetics".

Since September 2022 till August, 2024 Candidate of Medical Sciences M.B. Khakimova has been appointed to the position of acting head of the Department. From September 2024 to the present, the department has been headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Z.Ya. Maksudova.

The department has been operating since its establishment in accordance with the Work Plan of the Department, the Regulations on the Department, Decisions and orders of the Ministry of Education and Science, Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan and other regulatory legal acts and Resolutions of the Academic Council and Management of the “Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan". The department at the Institute is the main center for training scientific and pedagogical personnel in the field of hygiene and ecology.

THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

OF "HYGIENE AND ECOLOGY”

Improving the quality of students' practical knowledge and skills in the field of ecology and hygiene, shaping their personalities and worldviews.
Improving the educational effectiveness of hygiene and ecology subjects, covering classes using modern teaching styles and technologies.
Organizing and conducting scientific and methodological events, scientific and practical seminars, open classes, scientific and practical conferences, and seminars.
Enriching the educational process with the results of the latest scientific research.
Preparing methodological aids and educational literature.
Improving the level of educational, moral, ideological, political, and enlightenment work among students.
Improving the qualifications and professional retraining of teaching staff.
Scientific and research cooperation with other state educational institutions and scientific research institutes.

PERSONNEL OF THE DEPARTMENT OF "HYGIENE AND ECOLOGY”

The following 4 candidates of science work and teach at the department: Maksudova Z.Ya. - Candidate of Medical Sciences, associate professor, Odinaeva L.E. - Candidate of Medical Sciences, Halimzoda Sh.A. - Candidate of Chemical Sciences and Rahimov S.A. – Candidate of Geographical. The department currently has two full-time lecturers, Z.Y. Maksudova and L.Y. Melikova, two part-time lecturers, S.A. Rakhimov, PhD, and A.K. Juraeva, and 12 other part-time lecturers..

ACADEMIC WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT

The teaching of hygiene aims to form the knowledge of the basics of hygiene as a science in the future medical worker, which is most directly related to his professional activity.

The subject reveals the basics of hygiene and its tasks, the content of the preventive direction of health care, the necessity and practical expediency of measures widely carried out in our country to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population. It includes the main issues of general and private hygiene.

The section of general hygiene reflects topical issues of the human environment and ecology (hygiene of the air, water, soil, nutrition, as well as occupational hygiene and toxicology, etc.), sanitary and hygienic standards and requirements for the maintenance and operation of residential premises, medical and preventive and pharmacy institutions. A special place is occupied by the issues of health and safety of workers in various sectors of the national economy. It should be noted that students are taught in the state, Russian and English languages.

The department teaches first-year students from the medical, dental, pharmaceutical, social medicine, and medical psychology faculties, who study the subject “Ecology.” Third-year students from the social medicine faculty study social ecology. Third-year students of the medical, dental, and pharmaceutical faculties, first-year students of the social medicine faculty, and fifth-year students of the medical psychology faculty study the subject “General Hygiene.”

Second-year foreign students in the Faculty of Medicine also study General Hygiene, while third-year foreign students study Environmental Hygiene and Food Hygiene.

It should be noted that students are taught in Russian and English.

EDUCATIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES

To carry out educational work, the department is constantly engaged in the preparation of teaching aids for students of all faculties. During the functioning of the department, 1 educational and methodological complex and 4 curricula (syllabuses), new texts of lectures on ecology, hygiene, epidemiology and for students of medical, pharmaceutical and dental faculties, as well as bachelors of the Faculty of Social Work have been prepared. 900 examination tests and 900 examination questions were prepared for each discipline for students of medical and pediatric faculties (in 3 languages).The new programs are compiled in the state, Russian and English languages in accordance with the state educational standard of higher professional education. They define the goals and objectives of the discipline, requirements for the level of mastering the content of the discipline, thematic plans of lectures, practical classes and a thematic plan of independent work of students, according to the provisions of the credit system of education.

RESEARCH WORK

The department carries out activities on the basis of a research plan, in the field of scientific potential development, activation and advanced training, attracting young gifted students to environmental and hygienic science.

Based on the instructions of the Academic Council of the Institute, the department has now decided to conduct investigative work on the topic “The influence of environmental factors on the health of the population of Tajikistan".

A Club of young ecologists was created at the department in 2023 by the order of the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation A. Akhmedov, in April 2023 a thematic club was held on the topic “ Water as an environmental factor ” with a speech by leading students. Also at the Department, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan and in accordance with the adoption of the fifth proposal of the Republic of Tajikistan in 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Protection and on March 21 as World Glacier Day, a student conference dedicated to these dates was held within the department. Students together with the teachers of the department conduct research work, the results of the work carried out are made out in the form of abstracts, are reported and discussed at cathedral or interdepartmental round tables, and are also published in the form of abstracts and scientific articles. Thus, student scientific society activists annually participate in conferences of young scientists and students of the NGEO "Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan". The heads of the students' work are the acting head of the department, Z.Y. Maksudova, and the assistants of the department.

In order to clarify the content of the UN General Assembly Resolution (A/RES/77/158), which declared 2025 the International Year of Glaciers, March 21 is celebrated as the International Day of Glaciers, the creation of the UN International Trust Fund for the Preservation of Glaciers and the holding of a high-level UN conference on the International Year of Glacier Conservation in Tajikistan in 2025 with the participation of students and future scientists, approved by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated 31.08.2024 No. 407, on March 18, a scientific conference dedicated to the International Glacier Day was held at the NOU "Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan". More than 300 students, young scientists, professors and teachers of the institute took part in the conference. 18 presentations were heard.After discussions of the presentations and answers to questions, the Conference Resolution was adopted.

EDUCATIONAL WORK

Educational work is one of the main parts of the department's activities, which is carried out during lectures, practical classes.

The plan of educational work of the department includes the participation of the department in all state significant dates and social and educational events of the Non- governmental educational institution "Medical and Social Institute of Tajikistan".

Educational activities are aimed at improving the level of knowledge and culture of students, as well as expanding their horizons and worldview.

At the same time, educational work is carried out in a cohesive manner. The staff of the department constantly conduct conversations with students about education and compliance with the form, discipline and internal regulations at the department and at the institute.

At the Department of Hygiene and Ecology, according to the work plan of the Department of Educational Activities, more than 9 different issues were considered. Educational work was carried out on the following topics: implementation of the provisions of the laws of the Republic of Tajikistan: "On the responsibility of parents for the education and upbringing of children", "On the regulation of traditions, celebrations and rituals in the Republic of Tajikistan".

At the same time, in the study groups, teachers conducted propaganda work, conversations and meetings with students on the fight against terrorism and extremism and other undesirable phenomena, preventing the involvement of young people in extremist groups.
