DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY MEDICINE

History of the Department. The Department of Family Medicine was established for the first time on January 26, 2022, at the Non-Governmental Educational Institution “Tajik Medical-Social Institute” in accordance with the “Regulations on the Department of Higher Professional Education Institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan” (Resolution of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 30, 2017, No. 3/13) by order of the Rector of the Medical-Social Institute.

The Department of Family Medicine is the main educational and scientific unit of the Institute and conducts its activities in the areas of educational-methodical work, scientific research, social and educational work, and international cooperation. The educational-methodical and scientific-research activities of the department correspond to the main directions and curricula of the specialties “General Medicine,” “Dentistry,” and “Medical Psychology,” as determined by the respective faculty deans.

The department is located in the building of the State Institution “Research Institute of Medical-Social Expertise and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities” at 274a Huvaydulloyev Street, Dushanbe, on the third floor, where 5 classrooms are allocated. Additionally, one classroom is provided at the State Institution “Children’s Infectious Disease Hospital,” one classroom at City Health Center No. 2, and one classroom in the building of the State Department of the State Service of Medical-Social Expertise of Dushanbe. In total, 7 educational classrooms are allocated.

Practical classes, depending on the topic, are conducted at the Institute’s medical department, at City Health Center No. 2, and at other clinical bases of the department.

Currently, the department has 9 faculty members, including 2 Candidates of Medical Sciences, 5 instructors with the highest qualification category, and 4 young teachers. The department is headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Magzumova Firuza Pulodovna.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

The Department organizes the educational process in accordance with the curriculum for the following disciplines: Family Medicine, Endocrinology, Therapeutic Exercise and Physiotherapy, and Eastern Medicine for students of the 3rd–6th years in the specialties General Medicine, Dentistry, and Medical Psychology.

Teaching is conducted under the credit system in accordance with the educational programs and curricula approved by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Tajikistan. The educational process is carried out in the following forms:
a) Classroom activities — lectures, practical classes (seminars), and laboratory work;
b) Extracurricular activities — individual consultations, independent work under the guidance of a teacher;
c) Monitoring students’ knowledge: checking assignments, conducting midterm assessments, testing (written or computer-based) on specific sections of the studied subjects;
d) Current assessment — final test exams in specific disciplines;
e) Final state certification, state examinations in core subjects.

To improve the level and quality of education, develop students’ practical skills, and enhance the effectiveness of teaching core subjects — Family Medicine, Endocrinology, Therapeutic Exercise and Physiotherapy, Eastern Medicine, Radiological Diagnostics and Radiation Therapy — four department classrooms are equipped as preclinical training rooms, namely:

  • Practical skills classroom for Family Medicine;
  • Practical skills classroom for Endocrinology;
  • Practical skills classroom for Therapeutic Exercise and Physiotherapy;
  • Practical skills classroom for Radiological Diagnostics and Radiation Therapy.

Currently, the classrooms are equipped with all necessary equipment for the core disciplines. Practical skills are also developed directly with patients of various outpatient levels at the assigned clinical bases.

It should be noted that the Department of Family Medicine studies the history of family medicine, primary health care, features of family medicine, disease prevention, sanitary and educational work, promotion of a healthy lifestyle, improvement of medical literacy and public awareness, dispensary observation, medical record keeping in primary care institutions, diagnosis and symptom-syndrome complexes most commonly encountered in family practice, as well as acute and chronic diseases faced by family physicians in daily work.

All classrooms are furnished as much as possible with necessary furniture (tables and chairs) and decorated with thematic stands and study corners.

CLINICAL BASES OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • State Institution “Research Institute of Medical-Social Expertise and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities” (4 classrooms and 2 lecture halls; instructors: Magzumova F.P., Ayubova D.Kh., Mahmudova R.I., Bobonazarov E.Kh., Alloeva S.A.);
  • State Institution “Children’s Infectious Disease Hospital of Dushanbe” (1 classroom; instructor: Saifullozoda I.);
  • State Institution Medical Complex “Istiklol” (2 classrooms; instructors: Kobilova M.A., Mirzoev I.);
  • State Institution “City Health Center No. 1 of Dushanbe” (1 classroom; instructor: Vositzoda Z.F.).

The total area of the department, including the clinical bases, is more than 1,200 sq. m, which corresponds to 8–10 sq. m per student.

EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL WORK

The Department of Family Medicine mobilizes all available resources, including the intellectual and creative potential of students and faculty, to implement the requirements of the National Concept of Education in the Republic of Tajikistan.

The department staff develops activity plans based on initiatives and proposals from the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, relevant ministries, and the Institute administration, and organizes educational work among faculty and students accordingly.

To implement the National Concept of Education, necessary measures are taken: during educational hours, academic groups systematically study the concept, compliance with internal regulations and student rules is monitored. The department ensures adherence to the Recommendation Guidelines for Students of Higher Professional Education Institutions, and promotes the development of national consciousness, civic honor, and patriotism among students.

Educational work is conducted on topics including compliance with the laws of the Republic of Tajikistan: On Parental Responsibility for the Education and Upbringing of Children and On Regulation of Traditions, Celebrations, and Rituals in the Republic of Tajikistan.

In study groups, instructors also hold explanatory discussions with students on promoting uncompromising resistance to terrorism, extremism, radicalism, and other negative phenomena, and on preventing youth involvement in extremist groups.

To improve communication skills between faculty and students, develop patient interaction skills during practical classes, ensure compliance with the Medical Ethics Code, and strengthen spiritual, moral, and legal education, thematic discussions are conducted.

The department supports student participation in events, competitions, and conferences promoting a healthy lifestyle at the district, city, national, and international levels.

The Department of Family Medicine actively participates in the annual conferences of faculty and students held at the Institute, where achievements of teachers and students are discussed and presented, as well as in publications in media, on the official website, and in the Institute’s periodicals.

MEDICAL-CONSULTATIVE WORK

Department specialists (Magzumova F.P., Mahmudova R.I., Ayubova D.Kh., Vositzoda Z.F.) provide patient consultations.

DEPARTMENT ACHIEVEMENTS

In 2025, the department staff published 4 scientific articles and 8 abstracts in peer-reviewed journals and proceedings of scientific-practical conferences.

Additionally, two educational-methodical manuals were prepared, approved by the Publishing Department of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, and recommended for publication.

It should be noted that in 2024–2025, updates were made to the curricula in the following disciplines: Family Medicine, Endocrinology, Physiotherapy, Eastern Medicine, Radiological Diagnostics, and Radiation Therapy.

The department hopes to make a significant contribution to the development of the field, particularly family medicine, as well as to the advancement of the Institute in the future.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

The department, in collaboration with the State Institution “Research Institute of Medical-Social Expertise and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities,” conducts scientific research with two part-time postgraduate students.

METHODOLOGICAL WORK

The department staff have prepared and published the following methodological and educational manuals, as well as treatment standards:

  1. Treatment of Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases in Sanatorium-Resort Organizations, 2024;
  2. Sanatorium Stage of Rehabilitation — Return to Life and Work, 2024;
  3. Medical-Social Expertise and Rehabilitation of Persons with Cardiovascular Disabilities Considering ICF, 2024;
  4. Marketing in Healthcare and Economic Analysis of the Activities of Medical and Preventive Institutions, 2024;
  5. Syllabi were developed for the disciplines Family Medicine, Radiological Diagnostics and Radiation Therapy, and Endocrinology for students of the 3rd–5th years in the faculties General Medicine, Dentistry, and Medical Psychology.

PARTICIPATION IN SCIENTIFIC-PRACTICAL EVENTS

  1. Republican Scientific-Practical Conference “The Rehabilitation Process in Tajikistan: Problems and Achievements” (December 15, 2023) — 2 scientific articles published.
  2. IV Annual Scientific-Practical Conference with foreign experts “Strategy for the Development of Medical-Social Science in the Republic of Tajikistan: Experience, Problems, and Solutions” for faculty and students of the Non-Governmental Educational Institution “Tajik Medical-Social Institute” (October 18–19, 2024).
  3. IV Annual Scientific-Practical Conference with foreign experts “Current Medical-Social Problems (Science and Practice) and Ways of Their Development in the Republic of Tajikistan” for faculty and students of the Non-Governmental Educational Institution “Tajik Medical-Social Institute” (October 17, 2025).

It should be noted that department staff participate in all conferences with presentations, publications of articles, and abstracts.
